Journey Through Lent
Lent is a season of transformation and self-examination, inviting us to pause, pray, and rest in God’s presence. As a season shaped by Sabbath rhythms, Lent creates space to reflect on Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection while turning our hearts toward forgiveness and renewal. Join us at Christ Church as we observe these forty days and discover how rest, reflection, and prayer can lead us into closer unity with God.
Special Events & Programs
Lenten Reading Recommendations: Sabbath
This Lent, Rev. Bowie recommends several books that explore Sabbath as a practice of rest, renewal, and faithful resistance to a culture of constant busyness. Parishioners are invited to read one—or any—that speaks to them during the season.
One featured recommendation is Rest as Resistance by Tricia Hersey, which approaches Sabbath through the lens of liberation theology. Rev. Bowie will lead a Reading with the Rector discussion of this book at Holy Grounds on March 22 at 9am.
Additional suggested readings include The Sabbath by Abraham Joshua Heschel, and Sabbath: Finding Rest, Renewal, and Delight in Our Busy Lives by Wayne Muller.
Forum: Practicing a Tech Sabbath
Sunday, March 1, 11:15am
Join us for a conversation led by Chris Whitaker on practicing a Tech Sabbath—creating intentional space away from screens to reconnect with God, one another, and ourselves. The forum will include a brief presentation with practical best practices, followed by intergenerational discussion. All ages are welcome.
Episcopal Relief & Development Sunday
On Sunday, March 1 we will celebrate the work of Episcopal Relief & Development during our 8am and 10am services.
Choral Evensong for Lent
Sunday, March 8, 3pm
Please join us at 3:00 pm in March for a special Lenten Evensong sung by children’s choirs from Christ Church and across the Diocese of Newark. This contemplative service of prayer and praise invites children from throughout the diocese to lead us in worship as we gather in the spirit of Sabbath rest and reflection during the Lenten season. All are warmly welcome to attend this meaningful diocesan gathering.
