Careers in Transition

CAREERS IN TRANSITION - SHORT HILLS

WHO WE ARE AND OUR MISSION

Careers In Transition (CIT) is a non-sectarian group of executives and professionals from all disciplines, industries, and levels. CIT was founded in 1986 by members of Christ Church in Short Hills, New Jersey.

Our mission is to provide support to professionals during times of career transition, and guidance after they land. All are welcome to attend any meeting.

Our group has grown to include members from surrounding communities as well as from as far away as NY, PA, CT and DE, and our meetings have ranged in attendance from 30 to 100+ members. Landed members return to stay current with and learn new career advancement strategies and to keep their network current while helping others find new employment.

Dress is business casual. It is suggested that you bring a name tag, business cards, and note taking items.

WHAT WE DO

Our meetings are composed of networking time followed by 3 subgroup sessions and occasional presentations of interest (e.g., social media, networking tips, etc.). Networking is a key element of career transition, and is a major emphasis of CIT sessions.

OUR THREE SUBGROUPS:

General Session – a facilitated round table discussion of current challenges, topics of interest and techniques related to Networking, Interviewing, offer Negotiating, remaining positive and successfully managing a search.

How to get Unstuck in your Job Search and LinkedIn Networking Tips – a small group (5 – 6) that discusses special topics, including how to reach out to landed members.

Resume Review – a thorough review by experienced executive hiring managers with emphasis on 3 areas:

Its appearance on paper;

What it says and how it says it; what’s missing; and,

Anticipated electronic and Applicant Tracking System issues.

Participants should bring 15 copies of their resume (double-sided OK) or feel free to sit in and learn.

WHERE AND WHEN WE MEET

We are currently meeting virtually. For event details see our event calendar and click on our next meeting for the details and how/when to register. Registration is required.

We do not meet on major holiday weekends, when there are large church events, and in case of inclement weather (announced the morning of the event on all our communications media; in any case, stay safe).

HOW WE COMMUNICATE AND HELPFUL LINKS

In addition to our regular meetings, we have Groups.io, Facebook and LinkedIn groups for meeting notices, meeting notes, job leads and other networking opportunities. Since we value face-to-face networking, you must attend at least one meeting to be eligible to join.
