Bishop John Henry Hobart (1775-1830)

Bishop John Henry Hobart purchased a farm with 175 acres in what is now Short Hills, NJ. He was the rector of Trinity Wall Street, third bishop of New York, founder of General Theological Seminary and Hobart & William Smith College, and one of the most influential Episcopalians in the early nineteenth century. He is commemorated in the Episcopal calendar on September 12.
