The Rev. Dr. John Stonesifer

Interim Rector

The Rev. Dr. John DeWitt Stonesifer is a life-long Episcopalian, having been born and reared in the suburbs of Washington, DC.

While a priest for over three decades, John has focused on serving as a professional interim priest for the last 16 years, serving a total of 12 parishes in Maryland, Kentucky, Delaware, New York, West Virginia, and Illinois.

John is a leader for the Interim Ministry in the Episcopal Church (IMEC) and the ecumenical Interim Ministry Network (IMN), both of which support the training and development of interim ministers. His doctoral work in transition leadership was completed in 2015 at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Before embarking on his call to interim ministry, John graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1984; served in parish ministry for six years; and then for nine years for two Episcopal Schools as chaplain, assistant to the head of schools, and leader of religious curriculum. As well as earning an M.B.A., he then went on to a successful turnaround assignment at a mission church and then as a leader of pastoral services for a continuing care community.

John and his wife of 33 years, Susan, live in Silver Spring, Maryland. They have two grown children. In his free time, John enjoys playing music in a band (he’s a drummer) and taking part in the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

The Rev. Bowie Snodgrass

Associate Rector

Bowie Snodgrass is excited to begin her ordained ministry as Curate at Christ Church, focusing on families, newcomers, and community outreach. Most recently, Bowie was Wisdom Year Resident at Calvary-St. George’s in New York City as part of a Master of Sacred Theology from General Theological Seminary, and has studied religion at Union Theological Seminary, Trinity College Dublin, and Vassar College. Her professional lay ministry in New York included service as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Executive Director of Faith House Manhattan, and a redesign of as Web Content Editor. Bowie, her husband, George Mathew, and their son, Jacob, look forward to getting to know Short Hills and the surrounding area.

Carrie Cabush

Seminarian and Sunday School Coordinator

Carrie Cabush is in her final year at Princeton Theological Seminary and first year at Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work. She enjoys working with people of all ages in liturgy, spiritual formation, and outreach. Carrie is in the early stages of discerning a call to ordination in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark. She previously studied Psychology at Hamilton College, and has worked with various nonprofits to raise awareness and care for survivors of human trafficking, including Thistle Farms (Nashville, TN) and Love True (Bridgewater, NJ). Carrie looks forward to learning and growing alongside Christ Church.

Dr. Andrew Moore

Choir Master and Organist

Dr. Andrew Moore earned the Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and holds a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the notable John Weaver, chair of the Organ Department. Dr. Moore is the Chair of the Music Department at the Pingry School. Previously, he was the organist and choir master at Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield, NJ, and the Church of St. John on the Mountain in Bernardsville, NJ.

Andrew also has studied improvisation with Gerre Hancock and the harpsichord with the internationally acclaimed, Lionel Party. Andrew, his wife Susan, and their children Caroline and Nathan reside in Madison, NJ.

Chris Whitaker

Youth Ministry and Communications

Chris Whitaker is currently pursuing his Master of Arts degree in Comparative Theology at Drew University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Communication from McKendree University.

Chris previously served as the Youth-Outreach Minister at Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit where he oversaw the growth and development of both the Youth and Outreach programs. He also served as program director at Cross Roads Camp & Retreat Center.

He is excited to be a part of the Christ Church community and continue working in mutual ministry with others in the Diocese of Newark. He lives in South Plainfield with his wife Candice, son Emerson, two puppies Crosby and Tanner, and Penelope the cat.

Georgeann duChossois

Parish Secretary

Georgeann duChossois and her family have been residents of Millburn for nearly 20 years. She is an active participant and advocate in local school and community service organizations. Have a question – about anything – go directly to Georgeann.

Barbara Pepe

Christ Church Nursery School

Barbara Pepe, who assumed the helm in 2005, has over 20 years’ experience in pre-school education and child care. She operated her own nursery school, The Family Schoolhouse, before serving as the Director for the Episcopal Church in Montville Township, NJ for thirteen years.

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from William Patterson University and earned four teaching certificates in Special Education, Elementary Education, Reading and Early Childhood Education. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Barbara has invigorated the curriculum and learning experiences at Christ Church Nursery School, exuding personal attention and loving care to all of the young people entrusted to her care.

James Johnson

Plant Supervisor

James Johnson became the Plant Supervisor of Christ Church in Short Hills in 1998 overseeing virtually all aspects of the property facilities. He lovingly cares for the historic buildings and landscaped grounds of the Church, the Christ Church Nursery School, the Winston School and the Rectory. “Where’s James?” is the affectionate mantra heard throughout the halls and across the lawns of the church as the go-to-person.

James has served as a mentor and friend to countless teenagers over the years who often seek out his presence. He is a barbeque master, a jazz aficionado, and enjoys special time going on cruises with his wife, Glenda.

Lydia Zapico


Lydia Zapico joined the staff of Christ Church in Short Hills in 2011. She keeps everyone on their toes!
