Children's Programs

Pray. Wonder. Love.

We believe that children have a deep relationship with God from birth. At Christ Church in Short Hills, our programs for children and teens are designed to help young and growing Christians embrace the true language of faith. Through friendship, prayer, Bible readings and Christian service, our children of all ages can explore their identity in God’s image.

Godly Play

Godly Play is a Montessori inspired approach of sharing Bible stories and Christian tradition. Stories are told using simple wooden props in a way that allows the children to experience them deeply and prayerfully. Godly Play also helps the children learn the liturgical language of our faith. Children come out of Godly Play with an intimate sense of God’s presence in their lives.

3rd - 5th Grades

Every Whirl lesson follows a four-part sequence: Welcome, Hear, Respond, and Launch (WHRL!). Each week, kids and leaders start their time together by playing games, identifying where they are in the church year and watching an animated video to set up the lesson. Next, they dive into the Whirl Story Bible or Whirl NRSV Bible together, respond to the scripture lesson with creative leaflet activities, and circle up to review the lesson and pray before joining parents for Communion.

Children in this age group also meet regularly for team building and fun outside of church.
