Sign-Up to Teach!
Without our faithful and devoted parents, our children and youth
wouldn’t hear the Good News of Jesus Christ! Please sign-up to teach
in the Sunday School next year. Our schedule is divided into four
terms of about 8 weeks each: fall term (September thru early
November), Christmas term (mid-November through January), winter
term (February through early April), and spring term (mid-April
through mid-June.) Please call 973-379-2898 x209 or email

Welcome to the Christ Church
Sunday School!
We offer Christian education and nurture for
children from infants through Sixth Grade. Sunday School classes and Nursery
care begin on Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m. on the second and third floors of
our education wing.
Class Topics
Primary grades (1-3) will explore the Old Testament through the stories of
Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and the Pharaoh, Moses and
Miriam, Moses and the Red Sea, and the Feast of All Saints.
Intermediate classes (4-6) will explore God’s Covenant with the Hebrew
people through the stories of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Saul, David,
Solomon, the Exile to Babylon and the Feast of All Saints.
New and updated addresses, email addresses, birth dates and other
information enable us to reach out to you and keep you informed. You can
find a registration form at church, and here on our website.
Godly Play
For our youngest students
(3-5 year-olds), we use the curriculum designed by Episcopal priest, Jerome
Berryman, called Godly Play. This curriculum uses Montessori teaching
methods to tell the sacred story through scripture and worship.
Grades 1 through 6
Students in Grades 1-6 use the Episcopal
Children’s Curriculum, which incorporates scripture, sacraments and worship,
and the traditions of the Episcopal Church. Lessons include crafts,
supplemental books, music, and other materials to teach the good news of God
in Jesus Christ.
Nursery
The Nursery provides care for children 3 and
under.
Worship
Following Sunday School classes, our young people
join their families in worship at the Exchange of the Peace. This enables them
to participate in the Celebration of Holy Eucharist.
Family Events
In addition to
our activities on Sunday mornings, there are a variety of projects and events
offered for families including: the Advent Wreath-Making Dinner on the evening
of the First Sunday in Advent; the Heifer International Project for which we
raise funds during the Fall; the Christmas Pageant on Christmas Eve; regular
Youth Sundays in which our young people lead worship; and the Easter Egg Hunt on
the Sunday following Easter Sunday.
Communion Instruction
In the Episcopal
Church, all baptized persons are welcome to receive both the bread and wine
offered during Holy Eucharist. In order to provide young children with
instruction in the meaning and practice of receiving Eucharist, our clergy offer
classes each spring.
Education as Ministry
Christian
education is a ministry of our entire congregation. Our class teachers are
volunteers, including parents and other members of the congregation. Many of our
youth assist in the classrooms. Our programs depend upon their faithful
participation. All members of the congregation are welcome to be a part of this
important and enriching ministry!
Almighty God, heavenly
Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm
strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up,
that we may teach them to
love whatever is just and true and good,
following the example of our
Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
(Book of Common Prayer, p.
829.)
