Troop 15 08-09 Schedule
(revised 09.12.08 :: PDF file)

Troop 15 Scouts & Parents of Scouts
Welcome Back!
Beginning Monday night September 8th, we will start-up
our regular Monday night meetings, and all parents are invited.
We also want to encourage parents who want to take a more
active role in our Troop, to let us know – as we lost two members of
the Assistant Scoutmasters Committee last year – we need to replace
them and we need some new blood.
The first Scout Meeting will be set aside for organizational
purposes, as well as an opportunity for Scouts to share with the
Troop their summer camp experiences.
We will also award Scouts, who were not in attendance at
the last meeting in the Spring, their rank achievements and merit
badges. In addition we
hope to discuss the following:
·
We will be distributing our schedule for campouts as well as hiking
trips for the next four months.
Additional events, such as community service projects will
come as they are identified,
·
The Scoutmasters Committee has made leadership decisions both within
our committee, as well as within the leadership of the Troop:
o
For the remainder of this year, Jim Pellicane will take more of the
Monday night responsibilities on a regular basis, working directly
with the new Senior Patrol Leader, Charles Herrera, in planning and
delegating the responsibilities to Patrol leaders (Charles Hill,
Michael Pellicane and Petie Lurie),
o
Dave Cosgrove, who is a member of the Troop’s Advancement Committee,
will take on the clearinghouse responsibilities for Merit Badge
achievement. Dave, and
all the assistant scoutmasters, will be responsible for as many as
ten specific merit badges, ranging from the “core” Eagle Rank,
required badges, to all other elective merit badges,
o
Paul Herrera, who was a tremendous addition to our committee last
year-especially his and his wife Ann’s leadership in the Plant Sale
- will take on the responsibility of seeking out community service
projects for the Troop,
o
Steven Magee will remain the Eagle Scout Advisor, but will also
assist the Senior and Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders in planning
programs for this fall, and for preparing the calendar posted and
updated regularly on our website,
o
Fred Hill will continue with his role planning & arranging camping
trips, and facilitating Mr. Pellicane’s and Mr. Lurie’s efforts.
·
As for camping/hiking trips, this year, as in the past, we will
schedule a joint camping trip with Pack One, probably in October.
On a preliminary basis, we are hoping to schedule the
following trips:
o
September 27th – Lehigh River, one night campout, all day
raft trip
o
October 18th – Bulls Island, Delaware River one (two)
night campout and hike
o
November 15th or 22nd – Camp out at BSA Camp
Yaw Paw, and hike on Appalachian Trail
o
December – Day time hike, either on Patriots Path or in the
Palisades
·
Old Business: we hope to address with Scouts and their parents the
following:
o
The Advancement Committee wants to set up meetings with the Scouts,
who have joined the Troop in the past two years (and their parents
are invited as well) to insure we have not missed any achievements
pertaining to rank advancement,
o
We want to assure those five Scouts regarding the completion of
Environmental Science Merit Badge and review both Personal
Management and Sport merit badges with a list of scouts,
o
Late last spring, we believe we had all the boys complete the
minimum swim requirements, which are prerequisites for any
rafting/swimming event, as well as the swim requirements for the
rank of First Class.
Parents please help us to confirm that your son has met these
requirements.
