Christ Church in Short Hills began on March 28,
1882 when a group of residents met to form the first Protestant Church in Short
Hills. We are the oldest church in Short Hills. The first services were held in
the church building on Trinity Sunday, June 8, 1884. Although it has always been
a congregation of the Episcopal Church, the founders envisioned Christ Church as
a community church serving all denominations. This attitude is embodied by the
message inscribed above the baptistry window, “Ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
We are happy to welcome people from any tradition.
Christ Church’s Episcopal identity has strengthened over the last 25 years.
Today, Christ Church is a leading parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, not
only in size but also in financial support and in lay and clergy participation
in diocesan and national Episcopal Church matters.
Christ Church has a particular interest in nurturing the spiritual lives of
individuals and families. There are a variety of opportunities for Christian
education and formation for all ages including
Sunday school for children, a
youth program and adult
education opportunities.
In addition to many opportunities for learning, service, and fellowship offered
by the church, the clergy are stand ready to offer you spiritual counsel and
pastoral care.
We also enjoy socializing together. A group of parishioners known as the
“Parish Life” plans many such events. Watch for details in the Sunday bulletins,
the monthly newsletter, The Messenger, and on this website.
